I’m a personal stylist and my image consultancy is called Dresscode. I have long been fascinated by identity, particularly the interplay between a person’s self-image and how they are perceived by others. A former academic, I have a PhD and am the author of two books in the area. I’m still fascinated by identity issues, but now I’m bringing my long-held love for clothes and styling into view. I offer clients a way of understanding and using the power of clothes to communicate themselves more fully.
As a WiserLife consultant, I offer personalised advice designed to put women and men in the driver’s seat when it comes to style, image-creation and professional presentation. I offer three services: personal style advice; wardrobe reviews; and accompanied shopping trips. Each consultation includes a comprehensive, full-colour manual.
Style advice: Personal style consultations, undertaken at clients’ houses or another designated meeting place, are 90-minute sessions. Based on a client’s particular body type, I make specific recommendations regarding the most flattering cuts and silhouettes. Should clients have body parts they’d like to either highlight or camouflage, I can give them tailored advice on how to do that. The goal is to help clients learn how to use their clothes to make a good first and lasting impression.
Wardrobe reviews: During a two-hour wardrobe audit I visit the client’s home and go through their wardrobe with them. I separate their clothes, shoes and accessories according to whether they should be kept, repaired, recycled or retired. I help clients combine their clothes in new ways to create entirely new outfits. In addition, I identify gaps in their collection and record them on a shopping list so they know which pieces to purchase in future to maximise the number of outfits they can create. Clients come away with a better sense of what they have to work with, what they need in future, and how to get the most value out of their current collection.Accompanied Shopping:The client and I spend two hours together in stores of my or their choosing. Clients try on specific garments according to the kind of attire they need. If I have already done a style consultation with them, I know ahead of time which cuts and shapes are going to suit their body type. If I have previously reviewed the client’s wardrobe as well, I know what’s missing from their collection. We visit places they like or shops I know are likely to stock garments suited to their needs. The goal is to find ‘missing link’ garments that will help the client maximise the number of outfits they can create with the items they already have at home. I also aim to help clients buy clothes, shoes and/or accessories that will help them convey the best possible personal image
